(Approx. 0-3 months)
The process begins by exposing your immune system to small, controlled amounts of allergen via drops under your tongue. You may adjust to these exposures right away without any side effects, or you may temporarily experience minor side effects such as mild, transient tingling in your mouth, nasal congestion, or an eczema flare. Symptom relief is not expected in this first phase but sometimes is happily seen.
(Approx. 2 months – 4 years)
You will begin to feel better and better during this phase as your immune system begins to make positive changes such as building allergen tolerance and generally calming down inflammatory processes. We will gradually increase the doses in your SLIT treatment over time using cues from your immune system about how much allergen it can handle.
(Approx. 3-5+ years)
By now you have likely noticed a clear quality of life improvement due to the tolerance already built and other positive changes made to your immune system infrastructure. Your SLIT treatment may also have helped you prevent the development of new allergies. To give your immune system a chance to attempt to build a memory of its new tolerant state, time on stable (maintenance) doses is key.

Hi Dr. Schroeder. I just wanted to share with you how grateful and thankful I am that you are working with my son in regards to his allergy situation. Dr. Schroeder, you are the BEST physician we have ever worked with, EVER! You have been so compassionate, caring, pay attention to detail, and have surpassed all of our expectations. We have seen great success with the special shampoo and with slowly changing him to the Alimentum formula. After the test results were received, we have started your additional recommendations and the environmental SLIT drops. I had noticed a little eczema coming back as we started like you said might happen, but that could also be from some dog exposure he had at the same time. This has since resolved, so we will soon start the next part of the plan with the food SLIT drops. Thanks again for everything!!!
Hi Dr. Schroeder, I wanted to tell you that the pre-season grass drops are the bomb! The first few days were rough, but after that my gosh, I’m feeling so good! I’m back to doing spin class and pilates 2x a week. Plus walking the dog. I can do it all! My fatigue and joint pain is a 180 from what it was a year ago! I know this might not sound like a big deal but I can do errands, go to the gym or basically make plans for any time of the day and be able to follow threw. For so many years my life was so debilitated. Thank you, thank you!!!

Hello Dr. Schroeder, Hope you are having a great week. We sure are, thanks to you all. It amazed me that after 4 days or so, with each additional drop we’ve done from the start, E’s symptoms (increased sneezing, skin rash, etc) seemingly due to taking the increased dose would wane to nothing. And it seems like the chronic eczema behind his knees is now basically gone. We also have much less of the ‘mystery hives’ episodes that would show up while eating or just randomly. We are incredibly thankful to be able to do something proactively to help him for the first time since he was diagnosed, and we even feel like we might be seeing some positive outcomes already this early on even though you said it could take several months. Thank you again!!
